At Canvas Expressions we are dedicated to providing our customers the highest of quality in oil reproductions, oil portraits, as well as oil and watercolor originals. We use only the highest quality oils and canvas in every painting we create, and guarantee all of our work!
Our Origins
My name is Jon Michael, Director of Operations at Canvas Expressions. My wife, Svetlana, is our Master Artist whose brilliance and artistic talent amaze me even today. While I will expand on Svetlana's talent later on, it is only important at this moment that you understand who she and I are for our origins to make sense.
Years ago, I was seeking a reproduction of Van Gogh's Starry Night in its original size, knowing that this painting was one of Svetlana's favorites. I searched the web high and low, researching various "online galleries" trying to find just the right reproduction that would couple quality with value. At the time, I did not have thousands of dollars to spend on this birthday present, but still wanted to find a quality reproduction that even an artist such as Svetlana would appreciate.
This task proved to be more difficult than expected. The more I looked, the harder it was to decide which gallery to invest my time and money in. Finally, I found a site that displayed what appeared to be a quality reproduction of "Starry Night". I purchased it for $275 USD and waited for three weeks for it to be delivered. In that three week period the "online gallery" painted the reproduction from start to end and mailed it using an international delivery service (I think it was painted in Philippines).
When it arrived, Svetlana and I were shocked at what we saw. Van Gogh was rolling over in his grave, as the size of the reproduction was too large, the aspect ratio was incorrect, the colors were wrong, and the brushstrokes not even close to the original. In addition to this, the gallery had only allowed 48 hours for the paint to dry and when we received it, the packaging was stuck to the paint, leaving paper remnants on the canvas.
This experience later revealed itself as a blessing in disguise. It made us realize the opportunity that existed to utilize Svetlana's talent to give online art lovers a real choice for quality reproductions, portraits, and originals. This is where Svetlana's version of the story differs from mine, in that she says it was her idea, and I remember it being mine ;). In any case we conceived an online gallery that people can trust, that is located in the United States, and that delivers what is promised.
While Svetlana can obviously not paint all the orders herself, our staff of qualified and talented artists must live up to a rigorous standard of quality that Canvas Expressions is committed to deliver. We are not satisfied if you are not satisfied, and consider all of our pieces to be of museum quality, not only in the quality of reproduction, but also in the quality of products used to create your masterpiece.
